Hey beauties! L.A Girl Cosmetics have recently launched a new range of their Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks with a total of 26 shades in the collection. I know that many people loved the L.A Girl Flat Matte Pigment Gloss. I unfortunately wasn’t a fan of it due to the fact that it was extremely drying on my lips, which was kinda sad because I love the finish of a matte lipstick but I don’t like when they can be drying and uncomfortable to wear all day. Which is why I was super excited to see how these would turn out. So, I decided to pick up 2 of these lipsticks to test, in the shade Hush which is this beautiful dusty rose colour with a touch of brown and the shade Sweet Revenge which is a beautiful pastel pink. The L.A Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks also include shea butter and are said to be hydrating while setting matte.
L.A Girl Claims:
– L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick is rich in pigment and filled with moisture in a flat velvet finish.
– The long wearing formula goes on as a high pigmented liquid and dries to a matte flat velvet finish.
The lipstick comes packaged in a simple and sleek black plastic cylindrical tube with the color indicator on the top of the cap. When you remove the cap the first thing you notice is a very subtle vanilla scent. It smells so yummy!
The texture of these lipsticks are very creamy and they glide on the lips so easily. They dry down to a matt-finish and feel very comfortable on the lips. Pigmentation wise, they are moderate to deep. Upon application the color has to be built up before achieving the true color in the tube. You will need to apply a second coat for a more opaque color pay-off. As you can tell by the design of the lipstick it’s diagonal shaped, so I would suggest lining the lips with a lip liner, helping to achieve a more sculpted look. I left some lip swatches down below, so you can see how they look. My lips look a little glossy in the pictures but that’s just because I put tons of lip balm on before I applied these, but I promise they’re completely matte!
While I was testing these lipsticks throughout my day I didn’t experience any further drying on my lips which I was extremely pleased about. However these lipsticks do settle into lip lines, but that’s expected for pretty much all matt lip products. They lasted around 5 hours on my lips with minimal transfer. Although, if you eat or drink you are going to need to re-apply.
Okay, I may sound like a broken record talking about my dry lips… but my overall concern was if it would further dry out my lips, especially because it’s a matt lipstick. But thankfully that wasn’t the case with these. If you also have an issue with dry, chapped lips then I would always suggest to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before applying any lipstick.
I also love the fact that L.A Girl has a huge variety of shades in this collection, so everyone can pick up whichever shade they want, suitable for every occasion.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that the lipsticks also contain a teeny tiny lipgloss pot! The color indicator actually screws off. So cute!
My final thoughts? I’m really surprised by the overall quality of these lipsticks and for the ridiculously affordable price. I would definitely recommend checking these out!
